Feeling stuck at your screen? Here’s how massage can help
25.6.2025
Modern working life places significant demands on us – both mentally and physically. Remote work, long hours in front of screens, and constant pressure often manifest as tension in the neck and shoulders, tight jaw muscles, and frequent headaches. Regular massage therapy, however, can provide much-needed relief, boost energy levels, and, most importantly, support long-term well-being.
When we spend hours seated in the same position without sufficient breaks, our bodies start to react. Prolonged inactivity slows circulation, builds muscle tension, and can even affect mental clarity. Taking regular breaks is essential during the workday, but massage can also play a critical role in physical recovery. It not only promotes relaxation but also stimulates circulation, alleviates pain, and helps the body recover from daily stress.
“Many clients don’t even realize how tense they are until they’re lying on the massage table,” says certified massage therapist Anna Koskinen. “Headaches and numbness in the arms are often brushed aside or forgotten. A lot of clients wonder how they managed before they started getting regular massages, because the positive effects are often noticeable right away”, says masseur Anna Koskinen.
Stress often reveals itself in the body before we’re even aware we’re overwhelmed. Massage therapy releases the body’s natural feel-good hormones, such as endorphins and oxytocin, which calm the nervous system and promote a sense of well-being. Many people are familiar with that dull ache at the end of the workday or the morning headache that starts at the base of the skull and radiates toward the forehead. The cause is often tight jaw muscles or chronic tension in the shoulders, something we often do without realizing it. Numbness in the hands is also a common side effect of neck and shoulder tightness. Massage can relieve these symptoms, often even after just one session.
“Regular massage is an essential part of holistic body care. It’s not just about treating pain, but also about prevention and supporting recovery. Many of my clients have also experienced improved sleep quality as a result of regular massage”, Anna adds.
Massage is far more than just a luxury, it’s a practical tool for maintaining resilience. When your body feels better, your workday flows more smoothly. You don’t need to wait for pain to appear. Sometimes the best form of care is prevention – and giving yourself permission to pause.
