Liikuntaseteli - a sign of caring

LIIKUNTASETELI_200pix_ajantasainen_versioWhat is a ‘Liikuntaseteli'?

A Liikuntaseteli voucher is a means of payment offered by the employer to enhance the well-being of staff. Liikuntaseteli can be used to pay exercise activities in a way that accounts for individual preferences. This is a tax-exempt benefit for the user under certain conditions.

Why?

The employer supports staff exercise activities because exercise has positive effects on staff well-being. Regular exercise enhances the ability to recover from illness and stress, and it boosts both physical and mental health.

Everybody has unique preferences when it comes to exercising. The Liikuntaseteli voucher system allows the employer to support employees' exercise activities, whatever their sport of choice. Good work ability is a positive outcome for everyone: the employee, the employer, society.

For whom?

The employer gives the vouchers to employees to improve their personal well-being. The vouchers cannot be used to pay for the exercise services of children or other family members.

The tax-exempt status of the Liikuntaseteli system requires the employer to specify the employee entitled to a given set of vouchers. This is done either by hand (by writing the user's name on the voucher) or electronically.

How?

The monetary value of one Liikuntaseteli voucher is always €4 at the cash desk of the exercise facility. The voucher can be used to pay for active exercise services offered by an exercise facility in a similar way to how you would use cash or a debit/credit card, also for the purchase of products on sale. No extra charges are collected when you pay with a Liikuntaseteli voucher. No money is provided as change for a voucher.

If admission is more than the worth of one Liikuntaseteli voucher, the employee can use the voucher to pay part of the cost and make up for the difference with e.g. cash. If the user so desires, several Liikuntaseteli vouchers are accepted for a single payment.

A Liikuntaseteli voucher is required to have a specified period of validity. The period of validity is marked on the voucher's lower right corner. After expiration date, exercise facilities cannot accept a Liikuntaseteli voucher as payment.

Where?

Liikuntaseteli is a valid method of payment in nearly 3500 exercise facilities across Finland. The vouchers allow you to pay for gym workouts, swimming hall admission, fitness classes, yoga, dance, tennis, floorball, riding, orienteering and downhill skiing. You can find an up-to-date list and a search function under "Service locator" (the search functions only in Finnish).

The tax-exempt status requires Liikuntaseteli vouchers to be valid only for the most common forms of exercise, and for active exercise only. The voucher cannot be used to pay for things such as massage, tanning salons or spectator sports admissions.
